Adult Deepening Discipleship Opportunities

Current Events (Conf Rm C) A discussion-oriented, participant-led class that analyzes local and national issues, while trying to grapple with Christian responses to these events. Coordinators Tim & Shauna Lovin.

The Ligon Class (Conf Rm A) A class open to all adults that delves deeply into Scripture, primarily through the quarterly material, The Present Word, and seeks to cultivate strong fellowship and practices of Christian care, such as praying for one another, amongst its members. Led by Joe Currie and Mary Margaret McNeill.

Men’s Bible Class (Cornerstone Rm 217) A class open to all men who desire to study Scripture closely in fellowship with other men, typically through the quarterly material, The Present Word. Led by Milton Sills and Larry McNeill.

All in the Family (Library) A class that deals with topics related to families and parenting, but also, and most importantly, different approaches to living out one’s faith throughout the week. Led by Andy Dunlap and assisted by John Cates and Chris DiMarco.

Faith, Family and Fellowship (Cornerstone Rm 216) A class designed for young adults and young families that centers around small devotionals, fellowship, and exploring family interests. Led by Rob Pollock and Kelli Garbett.

Open 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM and staffed by Nursery employees and church volunteers. 
 8:30 AM - 10:00 AM, birth through 5 years old; 
10:00 AM - 11:10 AM, birth through 3 years old;  
11:10 AM - 12:30 PM, birth through 2 years old.

Two & Three Year Class

Class is held during 10:00 AM Sunday School hour and offers a brief lesson focusing on simple concepts and words of faith, using pictures, stories, songs, play and lots of love.

Kids Corner 

This class uses Godly play and children's literature to help teach the elements of worship.  Following a Moment with our Children, the little ones go to a classroom for Bible lessons, play and child care led by volunteers.

Learning together, our preschool and kindergarten children grow through Bible stories, crafts, songs and activities that help develop faith language and familiarity with Bible stories.

Elementary Sunday classes use the lectionary based Whirl Curriculum offering age appropriate Bible lessons using video and hands on learning techniques.

6th through 8th Grades Class

Fellowship and learning, using the Cokesbury material Grow, Proclaim, Serve. There is plenty of group discussion, drama, games and active learning.

Faith Seeking Understanding (Youth Suite) adults and high school students are invited to this intergenerational gathering for basics in theology and the Christian life. Led by Rachel Cheney, youth@brownsonchurch.org.

Adult Bible Studies

Waking Up White Author to Visit– Brownson will host a community conversation with Debby Irving, author of Waking Up White and Finding Myself in the Story of Race on May 20-21, 2019. The book has been commended for study by former moderators of the Presbyterian Church (USA) and has made her an acclaimed voice in conversations about race, with appearances on NPR and MSNBC, at TEDx Fenway, and in dozens of other media and venues. On Monday evening, Debby will speak at 7:00 PM in the Sanctuary and on Tuesday from 9 AM – noon she will offer workshop sessions to help deepen our conversations.
