Mission Statement

Brownson Memorial Presbyterian Church of the Presbyterian Church (USA) is a covenanted community of Christian believers called to serve God.  We believe in God, the Creator; in Jesus Christ, the Liberator and Redeemer; and in the Holy Spirit, the Comforter and Sustainer, who empowers us to work toward the fulfillment of God's purpose in the world.

Living as Kingdom servants,
our mission is to know Christ by:
  • deepening relationships through worship and sacraments;
  • a growing understanding of God's work and will through faith, prayer, and study;
  • a fellowship in Holy Spirit through which we listen and learn;
  • a supportive, loving, and caring ministry to and with one another; and
  • an openness to all people in the community and around the world.

To make Christ known:

  • through reaching out and welcoming others into our common life;
  • through witnessing to the joy of the gospel in word and deed;
  • through ministering to the needs of others as a congregation;
  • through freeing people from fear, discrimination, hunger, and injustice; and
  • through sharing with Christ in establishing His just and loving rule in the world.

We, as individuals and a covenant community, pledge:

  • our faith;
  • our time;
  • our resources; and
  • our faithfulness to the fulfillment of this mission.

Vision Statement
For Brownson Memorial Presbyterian Church

Overview:  Vision Description:
2015 finds Brownson Memorial Presbyterian Church (BMPC) as a “Church Alive.”  It is an ever-growing church, expanding in its reach into the minds and hearts of its family of members
[1], widening its impact on the local and global communities, and deepening its development of faith among its members.  Members of all ages and stages of life look to the church for encouragement and support.

All of us -- adults, youth, and children -- are generous through the work of the church, are active participants in the life of the church, and are committed to individual and collective pursuits of Christian understanding.  Worship remains the cornerstone of Brownson’s existence, is steadfast in its reformed traditions and roots, and is continuously reinventing itself in form and delivery to meet the changes of the times and members.

Brownson Church in 2015 is very much a contemporary church in that members find in this church community worship, learning, fellowship, and faith development that has a clear and strong impact on the way in which they view their lives and the world around them, and on the way in which they lead their lives.

Brownson Church in 2015 is also very much a traditional church in that its members hold true to beliefs that have been at the core of Christian faith for two thousand years:

  • The head of the Church is Jesus Christ.  (The Book of Order)

  • Our chief end in life is to glorify God and enjoy God forever.  (Westminster Shorter Catechism)

  • The two greatest commandments are to love God and to love neighbor. (Matthew 22:37-39)

Brownson members seek to live and witness in the church and in the world as called by God, clothed in compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, patience, and love.  (Colossians 3:12,14)

(Session adopted 11/20/05)
[1] Throughout this Vision Statement, the term “members” is an inclusive term meaning all attendees, all who are associated with Brownson; not just “confirmed members.”
