2017 Lenten Series

Why a Lenten Series?

Lent is the approximately 40 day period between Ash Wednesday and Holy Saturday, the day before Easter is celebrated. Traditionally, this season in the life of the church has been seen as a time for preparation and realignment. For well over 1500 years, Christians have used the season of Lent to seek God’s forgiveness, reorientation and direction. Like taking a car in for a tune-up, Lent can be an opportunity for us to do some self assessment and take stock of our lives. As we prepare for the joy of Easter and God’s radical, saving love that can save us from anything, even death, we take this time to reflect on what God longs for us in our lives. Being involved in a Lenten Series can aid in this process.

During this season, Brownson gathers small groups to do a themed study. It is a compilation of materials and discussions around a particular theme. The hope of the study is that this collection of Scripture readings, ideas, questions, and study materials will foster meaningful and relevant conversation among the BMPC community during the season of Lent and beyond.

Groups meet weekly for six weeks leading up to Easter—you can pick the group that best suits your needs. In 2016, 12 groups and over 160 participants enjoyed weekly fellowship, bible study and lively discussions.

Here’s what a few participants had to say…

“I loved the bonding that took place during our Lenten study group. I enjoyed hearing people’s opinions, stories, thoughts on various issues. It was a great way to envelop Bible study, fellowship, and strengthen friendships all at once!”

“I really enjoyed and learned from the introspective study, and I feel like everyone in the group who participated walked away with more than they came with. Whether it was a statement by another member that touched them or an insight to an issue/passage/situation discussed among the group, at different times, it seemed everyone gained from the experience. I also enjoyed getting to know fellow group members at a deeper level. It was great! Many thanks to our leaders!”

“I appreciated how our weekly lessons were tied to each week’s sermon. Our discussions, along with
pondering the week’s sermon, really helped me to think more deeply about each of our topics than I would have if studying on my own. The fellowship among our group is heart-warming. Thank you for leading the group and for inviting us to join!”

The 2017 Lenten Series will be "Anatomy of the Soul - Praying the Psalms in the Season of Lent"
