Adult Church School Classes

All classes meet at 10:00 a.m.. on Sunday during the church school year (September through May) unless otherwise noted. Coffee is available to everyone at the Information Center in the Atrium. Please check below to see which classes meet during the summer months.

All In The Family Class meets Room 218 of the Cornerstone Building. We are all part of God's family, and much of what our class focuses on is family related - our topics, our concerns, and our lives in general. Our door is always open - you're welcome to join us at any time!

B.Y.B. (Bring Your Bible) meets in Conference Room C in the Conference Center. Bible study discussion about the upcoming lectionary lesson(s) using the curriculum, "Feasting on the word." Searching for a Sunday School Class? Bring Your Bible and give B.Y.B a try.

Ligon Adult Church School Class meets in Conference Room A in the Conference Center. Bible based curriculum guides class study through a rotation of Old & New Testament books. Please come before class time for coffee and conversation.

Men's Bible Class meets in Room 217 of the Cornerstone Building. This tradition-rich class begins with a time of worship including hymns and prayer, followed by the day's lesson. Hearty fellowship is shared among those who yearn for an opportunity to learn the scriptures.

The Next Chapter Class meets in Conference Room B in the Conference Center. Mostly we are adults with 50 or more years of life experience, looking forward to the "next chapter" of our lives, but all are welcome!

Church Library
The library is a resource for all members of the church. It is full of books just waiting to be checked out or just browsed through. There are over 2,900 books in our library. The collection has something for everyone--church members of all ages, Bible study leaders, Bible study students, church school leaders and students, and church staff. A few of the broad categories of books are:

Books about the Bible, philosophy, religion, and Christian doctrine

Devotionals and prayers for all ages and situations

Bill Jones Series
The Bill Jones Lecture Series was established with an endowment for the purpose of supporting special events which inform, educate, and enrich the spiritual life of Brownson Memorial Presbyterian Church members and beyond. The events are open to Sandhills citizens and serve as a witness of faith. The lecture events occur two to three times throughout the year and are announced in the various church communication bulletins.
The Bill Jones Series continues to bring outstanding speakers to our congregation and community. The following special lectures have been held at Brownson:

February 2005 - The Rev. Dr. Charles A. Kimball - Wake Forest University

October 2005 - Dr. Stanley Hauerwas presented “An Unsinkable Church in a 21st Century Sea of Icebergs." Currently, he is the Gilbert T. Rowe Professor of Theological Ethics at the Divinity School of Duke University.

October 2005 - In connection with our church’s long-range planning, the Rev. Dr. Jackson W. Carroll. Dr. Carroll is the Williams Professor Emeritus at the Divinity School of Duke University and the Director of Pulpit and Pew.

February 2006 - Dr. John W. Kuykendall presented "Historic Faith and Hidden Future." Dr. Kuykendall is the retired President and Professor at Davidson College.

September 2006 - Dr. Charles Page II, an archeologist, biblical scholar, ordained minister, and Academic Dean of the Jerusalem Institute of Biblical Exploration.

February 2009 - Dr. Mel Bringle - Professor of Philosophy and Religious Studies and Chair of Humanities at Brevard College in NC. Dr. Bringle is also President of "The Hymn Society in the United States and Canada."

September 2009 - The Rev. Dr. Brian K. Blount - President of Union Theological Seminary & Presbyterian School of Christian Education and Professor of New Testament, Richmond, VA

November 2009 - The Rev. Donald Davis, renowned Christian storyteller ("Our Stories Tell Us Who We Are") with both a sacred and secular ministry.
