Adult Church School Classes ~ Click here for Current Class Schedule
All classes meet at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday during the church school year (September through May) unless otherwise noted.  Coffee is available to everyone at the Information Center in the Atrium.  Please check below to see which classes meet during the summer months.

All In The Family Class meets in Room 208 Education Building.  We are all part of God's family, and much of what our class focuses on is family related - our topics, our concerns, and our lives in general.  Our door is always open - you're welcome to join us at any time!

In-Between Gathering has a varied schedule of speakers and programs throughout the church school year.  Feel free to drop in for one class or as a regular attendee.  The In-Between Gathering meets in Conference Room B in the Conference Center.

Ligon Adult Church School Class meets in Conference Room A in the Conference Center.  Please come before class time for coffee and conversation.

Men's Bible Class meets in Room 217 Cornerstone Building.  This tradition-rich class begins with a time of worship including hymns and prayer, followed by the day's lesson.  Hearty fellowship is shared among those who yearn for an opportunity to learn the scriptures.

Next Chapter Class meets in Room 218 Cornerstone Building.  Mostly we are adults with 50 or more years of life experience, looking forward to the "next chapter" of our lives, but all are welcome!

Women's Gathering meets in Room 108 Education Building.  It is our pleasure to welcome you to this warm, hospitable, and caring group which is open to any woman interested in Christian fellowship.

Spring Short-Term Classes

Les MisOn March 17 and 18, Brownson will be presenting a theological work entitled "The Gospel According to Les Miserables", which includes music from the Broadway

musical. In preparation, three ninety minute classes exploring the themes of the musical are being offered.  Teachers include Susan Paschal and Grady Perryman.

Dates:  Mondays, February 27, and March 5and 12 from 7:00-8:30 p.m., Conference Center B

Trouble in the Bible — This six-week class will examine some of the most troubling passages in the Bible;

including some that seem contradictory, challenge our views or run counter to today’s culture.  We will try to “decode” the differences in languages, people, places,

and cultures so the stories can make sense today.  In this class we will study passages which are not included in the lectionary for preaching and strive to hear what

the silenced passages of Scripture have to teach us.

Dates: Thursdays, February 9, 16, 23, and March 1, 8, 15 from 5:30-7:00 p.m., Cornerstone Building 216

Leader:  Rev. Robert Allen

This I Believe — As we go through Lent, we will reflect on our spiritual autobiographies in this interactive class.  What do you believe about God?
Where and when has God felt particularly close...or very far away?
How has your faith guided your life or been a struggle?  We will look at the way our
beliefs and spiritual practices have changed over the course of our lives as we move from childhood, to youth, to the different stages of adulthood.
There will be time during each class to write about our spiritual journeys as we share our stories and listen to others.  Participants are asked to read one
spiritual autobiography before class begins.

Dates:  Wednesdays, March 7, 14, 21, & 28 from noon to 1 p.m. (You’re welcome to bring a bag lunch!),

Cornerstone Building 216   Leader:  Rev. Cynthia Strickland

Golfing With God — Herman Fins-Winston is a professional golf instructor from Pennsylvania who finds himself in heaven after his death.
This is quite a surprise to him in-as-much-as, in his own words, “a fair percentage of golfers never make it to paradise.”  When asked by God to
help Him with His game (The Almighty has the “yips”), a spiritual journey begins that will move you to laughter and tears.  Come join us for a light

theological discussion of Roland Merullo’s novel, “Golfing With God,” led by Rev. Buddy Olney.  Participants are encouraged to read the novel before class begins.

Dates:  Tuesdays, April 10, 17, and 24 from 7:00—8:15 p.m., Conference Center B

Leader:  Rev. Buddy Olney

The Ten Commandments for Today — This seven-week class will join attorney and teacher, Michael Walsh for an exploration of the meaning and
continuing importance of the Ten Commandments for Christians today.  Using the Bible alongside Walter Harrelson’s book on the Ten Commandments, we’ll
take a fresh look
at how these largely negative formulations point a positive way to live under God’s rule.  Class books ($10) may be ordered through the church office.

Dates:  Wednesdays, beginning April 11, from 5:00-6:30 p.m., Cornerstone Building 216

Leader:  Mr. Michael Walsh

Sign up ~ sheets will be available in the Information Center or you may call or e-mail the church office at 962-6252 or office@brownsonchurch.org

Responses from DISCIPLE Participants...

DISCIPLE is like having a personal trainer!  With a well prepared program and a committed Christian instructor; it is the opportunity to share your faith journey with a small group who do the same in the spirit of Christian love.  No one in our class wanted it to end! ~ Steve Floyd

The benefit of DISCIPLE is reading and understanding the Bible, one book at a time, in depth.  That cannot be done by reading on one’s own.  Without a doubt, the friendships and “family” bonds that are created in a class have been particularly meaningful to me. ~ Jennifer Berk

In my years at Brownson it is the most spiritually attuned I have ever been.  I am more than casually interested in the Bible for the first time in my life.  Give DISCIPLE at least 3 meetings to get into it. ~ Jim Reid

DISCIPLE is “The Best Gift You Can Give Yourself” - a spiritual and personal journey shared with your church family members.  I’m glad to see so many of our church family involved with DISCIPLE. ~ Carol Haney

I have grown as a Christian and as a person as a result of DISCIPLE class! ~ Carol Lamphier

DISCIPLE has expanded my knowledge of the Bible.  Opinions are formed and reformed, expanded and compressed into a deeper faith.  I enjoyed the class and made some good friends. ~ Carol Saylor

The challenge of DISCIPLE is to fit necessary reading and study into an already busy schedule.  Benefits include fine participation opportunities with interesting classmates, teachers and good materials. ~ Dee Park

Our teacher helped us to understand God’s Word.  The questions and discussions brought us all closer to the role of a DISCIPLE for Christ bringing together a group of people in a special bond. ~ Priscilla McLeod

I am so thankful for the opportunity to have taken DISCIPLE classes.  I am now more confident to pray in public and to speak to people about spiritual things. ~ Ruth Prim

I had taken Old Testament and New Testament classes in college, but this was a very different, far more meaningful experience.  DISCIPLE brought challenges but also much meaning and hope. ~ Nancy Frock

In DISCIPLE class, I not only learned, I enjoyed! ~ Janet Mitchell
